Each state has specific requirements concerning what is required for a company to sell title insurance. The South Mountain Group, Inc. fully complies with each state?s mandates, including full compliance with attorney state requirements. SMG has retained appropriate counsel to work with each State?s Bar Association to maintain full compliance with the law. All title opinions in NC and WV are prepared and certified by independent counsel in attorney states, and attorneys licensed in each state are retained as General Counsel to ensure compliance, and answer any legal questions regarding issuing title insurance and conducting real estate settlements in that state. Additionally, SMG carries its own Errors and Omission?s Insurance, protecting each client in the amount of 1 million per transaction, as well as all required Fidelity and Surety Bonds as required under state law. In VA, we are licensed with the State Bar under CRESPA, and in MD, DC, PA, and OH all appropriate licensing with the Insurance Commissioner are in place and regularly updated.
